Ace Brigode has traveled the country with his band The Ten Virginians, playing nightclubs, parties and weddings (early on) in search of their distinctive sound. Ace and the boys landed in Miami a few years back after getting a call from an old friend of his, Kasper Ferrari, who was opening a club and needed a nightly band. With a generous take of the door profits, Ace and the boys settled into a permanent place at the Indigo Cabana and went from being a purely instrumental band to using a singer. Their first singer, Doris Harper, stayed with the band for a year and a half before eloping with one of the band members. In a pinch and needing a vocalist, Ace 'borrowed' one of the cigarette girls who fit into Doris' costume and put her up with the band.

Educated at home by her mother and governess, Diane learned the regular pastimes of gentility and was prevented from excelling in mathematical endeavors by her father, who was disappointed in having a daughter. He felt it was a betrayal by her mother as he was only meant to have sons to carry on the family business.
She met up and was conned by the charming sociopath Roland Foster who utilized a combination of drugs and hypnotism to gain her trust and control her in an attempt to drive her brother mad, believing she would be the sole beneficiary of the family's fortune which he then intended to steal from her.
